Since 1965, Congressional Aquarium, Inc., has carried a wide range of both fresh and saltwater fishes. We carry a broad selection of both common and hard-to-find freshwater fishes in "the cleanest tanks in town." We have more than 25 varieties of live-bearers on hand at any time, from Fancy Guppies to Snow-White Mickey Mouse Moons. Harder-to-find species, like Zebra Plecos, rare Electric Blue Jack Dempseys, Keyhole Cichlids, and Gardneri Killies, fill in the remainder of our tanks. In the 400-gallon saltwater section, everything from Green Chromis to Zebra Stripe Moray Eels can be found. The store has at least one shark egg on hand most of the time. Invertebrate enthusiasts will find everything from camel shrimp to octopuses. In either of our two mini-reef aquariums, one might find anything from acropora corals to elegans corals.
Our aquatic plant section is one of the most extensive in the area. A constant supply of more than 20 different plants is supplemented by a wide variety of plants offered from time to time, such as Mermaid Plant, Bacopa, Giant Indian Red Swords, and Mother Amazon Swords, often measuring more than a foot across! Our employees will offer advice as to lighting requirements and fertilizers.
The complete pond section holds numerous types of pond filters, UV sterilizers, liners, and other pond supplies. Koi and Goldfish, while in season, vary from small pond comets to imported Japanese Koi. We carry a number of pond plants, including Hyacinths, Water Lettuce, and many types of hardy pond lilies. The store stocks numerous types of fish foods, including 20 varieties of frozen foods. We carry five different types of heaters, including a fully submersible titanium heater that is unbreakable and is perfect for tanks holding large, belligerent cichlids or turtles. Filters vary from simple box filters and common outside power filters to two different types of canister filters. We even stock hard to find items, such as Diatom Filters and R/O units.
The novice aquarist is not neglected at Congressional Aquarium, Inc. A color dot system gives an at-a-glance look at fish compatibility. Knowledgeable employees are always ready to offer good advice on which species do well together, as well as to help out with fish diseases, equipment questions, or any other problems that may arise. Simple beginner 10-gallon systems start at just $59.95, including tank, hood, light, filter, heater, and other necessary pieces. The store stocks a number of different tanks, ranging from two and a half gallons to 75 gallons. Hard to find shapes and larger sizes are easily special-ordered and typically arrive within a week. And, of course, any equipment bought with the tank, hood, and light is 20 percent off, from decorations to filters! The store is always ready to deliver or even setup any sized tank.
